Why we Celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles
The Feast of Tabernacles is a celebration commemorating the miraculous work of God in bringing the Israelites out of the Egypt and also the latter harvest. Leviticus 23:33-44 describes this exciting celebration consisting of great rejoicing, offerings to the Lord, and celebration through dancing.
The Jewish people were to build sukkots or temporary shelters to remind them of how they lived in sukkot (or booths) when God brought them out of the land of Egypt. The sukkot remind the Jewish people of the time they spent in the Wilderness and how God provided for them. The Feast of Tabernacles also looks forward to the time when Yeshua (Jesus) will rule and reign on the earth in the Millennial Age.
Zechariah 14:16-18 tells us that all the nations of the earth will celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. In fact, God says that He will withhold rain from any nation that does not come to Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast. Thus showing God's Heart in His command to keep this Feast.
The Feast of Tabernacles is highly significant to the Christian Church. Leviticus 23:33-44 describes the celebration as a "holy convocation," or gathering, to remember the time the Jewish people spent in the Wilderness and how God provided for them. It is through the Chosen People of Israel that God provided to us the Scriptures and the Messiah, Jesus! This Feast falls in accordance with the fall harvest, also known as the "Latter Harvest." The people were to present their offerings before the Lord in celebration of their harvest. We too, look to the Feast as a time to celebrate the great Harvest of Souls that God has promised for these "Latter Days."
