Restoration is a common theme in the ministry of On Eagle's Wings Inc. From the Restoration of the Jews to their God and the Promised Land, to the Restoration of the Church.
When one reads the history of the Jews, and how they came to be dispersed, one can learn some important lessons. It was because they began to follow the ways of the pagan culture around them instead of God's ways, that they fell. This is why God has made family worship the Biblical Model for all peoples of the faith of Abraham, both Jews and Gentiles (Deu 5:1-6:9, Eph 4:17-6:9).
As an integral part of the work of our ministry we encourage churches (both large and small) to conduct Family Integrated Services that help to nurture both family and church relationships the way God has always intended: To end the unbiblical practice of dividing families and children into different age, activity and gender groups; To help nurture the Biblical purpose of the family and each persons Biblical role rather than hinder them.
The Bible calls parents to teach the Word of God to their children everyday, when they “sit in their house, when they walk by the way, when they lie down and when they rise up” (Deuteronomy 6:7). In Psalm 78 Scripture says: "He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children." No where in Scripture does it say that it is appropriate to pass this responsibility on to others. Not in public schools or church. The very measure of whether children are being led by the Spirit of God is in how they respond to their parent's authority (Eph 5:15-6:9). In fact, the Bible says that if a man does not manage his household wisely and his children are wild and do not obey him, then he is not qualified for the position of Elder or Pastor in the church (1 Tim 3:4-5). This stringent regulation is due to the Biblical role of Pastors and Elders. It is their job to equip the saints for the work of the ministry. Not to do the ministry for them. They are to do this by modeling proper discipling of their children and teaching others to do the same thing. This makes sense when you ask, "How can a person lead others to raise up children being led by the Spirit of God if they have not been able to raise their own children correctly?"
Even for those individuals qualified for the positions, it has not been and never will be, their role to disciple our children for us (Ephesians 6:4). There are several reasons why this is so important. One reason lies with the very purpose of marriage;- to have many children (multiply greatly) and for parents to be an Illustration to them as to the nature and character of Christ and the Church (Eph 5:31-32). Parents are not only to pass on the knowledge of God to their children through the Bible, but also to demonstrate God's power in their lives through their own living and personal testimony with the LORD. It is when children "see" the God of the Bible actively living in their parents lives the same way He did in the Scriptures, that they are led to our Savior. The God of the Bible is the same today, yesterday and forever. A Testimony of His acts in the past is highly encouraging, but it is the current activity of God in the lives of families that will truly reach our children and the next generations as they do the same.
Another reason that God has given parents the responsibility to disciple their children is so that the community of faith will not be absorbed into the world and cease to exist as His people (Deu 6). Because of this we encourage Pastors, Rabbis and Church Leaders not to divide the family into age groups as the secular school system does, but to train parents to raise their children up in the LORD as Deuteronomy 6 says. Not to do it for them. We also encourage an end to the promotion of "Teen Culture" and a Restoration of Family Culture; centered on parents leading their children daily in the reading of Scriptures, praise and worship through Davidic Dance, personal testimonies to God's work in our lives, and encouraging children to express their understanding of faith so that continued guidance can be given.
If you take a look at the way most family routines go today, you will see how both parents leave for work in the morning. The children go to school where they are segregated into groups their age, and taught in a system that ignores, if not denies, God altogether. The children get very little, if any, time together with their siblings or others of different ages. This causes an aversion to develop to children of different ages and adults over time (the generation gap). The parents generally get home around 5:30 or 6:00PM, when it is time to do homework. After homework is completed, dinner is cooked, and baths are taken, it is time to go to bed. This routine generally happens five times a week with one or two nights where the children and parents may attend a mid week church service. Sometimes these services do not include the whole family and further disintegration of family relationships occurs and Parents discipling their children does not occur. When Saturday or Sunday comes around and church services are held, the family is divided once again. All of this does not even take into account the division that occurs with sports and other extra curricular activities. When you hear of individuals discussing ways to spend more time with their children the only thing they can salvage out of the current system is meal times and their trip to and from church. Which falls far short of Deuteronomy 6:7 where God says: "And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." It's one thing to have a system that is not derived from the Bible, but it is even worse to have a system that works directly against the Biblical Model. By the way, Homeschool Families have found that night time homework can be completely eliminated thus leaving the time open for family relationships and discipleship. Their academic level is also generally higher than Public schooled children. On the other hand Parents of Public Schooled children generally have to help their children do the "homework" at night, thus basically "homeschooling" their children anyway only with Secular Material and no teachers books.
Through Family Integrated Services we are seeking to Restore the Hearts of the Parents to their Children and the hearts of the Children to their Parents. For the promises of the fifth commandment to be received (Long Life for the Community of Faith). For Fathers to become Biblically literate and the spiritual leaders in their homes; for mothers to follow the Biblical teaching in Titus 2 and for the entire family and congregation to grow closer together. This all being just one part of the overall Restoration of God's people getting ready for His final return.
Let us close with Scripture in Titus 2:1-8 where it reads:
You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
