Lead Us Not Into Temptation, But Deliver Us From Evil
This is perhaps one of the most important areas that individuals need to cover in prayer. Temptation is mentioned many times in Scripture with most directing us to specifically pray that we do not fall into it. For those times when temptation comes God makes a promise. He says:
 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. (ICorinthians 1:13)
In 1Peter 5:7-9, God's Word says:
 Cast all your anxiety on him [God] because he cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith...
The only way to resist the schemes of the devil is to stand firm in the faith. That means we must stand in God's Promises, found only in Yeshua and walk accordingly. God must be included in every part of our lives because we are in Christ and God's Spirit dwells in our hearts. Just as the Israelites had to shed the ways of the world around them, we too must walk according to God's ways, and shed the ways that are contrary to God. This is called Sanctification, and is a process that takes place over time. (This should not be confused with Justification which is instantaneous when you accept Yeshua as your Savior.) It is important to realize that it is our inner heart where God dwells. Sanctification will be easier when we guard our hearts from sin. That means being careful what we expose ourselves to, such as television, video games, unwholesome talk, et. cetera. The Scripture says:
 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. (Philippians 4:8)
Let us close with God's Word found in 1 Peter 4:1-11:
 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin. As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do--living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you. But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit. The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. (NIV)
