Biblical Submission in Marriage (On Earth as it is in Heaven)
In case you haven't noticed yet, some of the major headings contained in our website come from Yeshua's prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 where it says:
"Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." (KJV)
In this section, we will be focusing on Yahuwah's Will being done on earth as it is in heaven. Yahuwah has graciously given us patterns to follow that will bring Great Restoration in His Kingdom. Many of these patterns can be found in the Biblical Holiday section of our website. In this section we will cover another pattern found in Biblical Submission within marriage. This pattern is found in the Trinity of Elohim. The Bible clearly reveals that there is only one Elohim, but that He has revealed Himself in Three Persons. They are known as El the Father, El the Son, and El the Holy Spirit. Each person of this Trinity is fully Elohim and has the power to do whatever Elohim can do. This Trinity of One Elohim is referred to early in Scripture in Genesis 1:26 where it reads, "Then God [Elohim] said, 'Let us make man in our image'..." Notice the word "us" is plural and not singular. (Elohim is the Hebrew word that the English translators received this plurality from. The "im" in "Eloh'im'" is what gives it's plural form.) So the idea of the Trinity is referring to El the Father, El the Son, and El the Holy Spirit; One Elohim in Three Persons. Much more can be said about the Trinity, but that is not the focus of our study today.
I want to bring our focus to the pattern that Yahuwah has given mankind in the Trinity. Then I will show how this pattern is supposed to work out here on earth as it is in heaven to bring Restoration to us and our families, and thus His Kingdom.
This pattern can be seen in the area of submission within the Trinity itself. Many people in the world today hate the whole concept of submission. Especially when it comes to wives submitting to their husbands, which is a Biblical Mandate. In 1 Corinthians 11:3 the Scripture says:
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Messiah; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Messiah is Elohim. 1Cor 11:3
Both the pattern of submission within the Trinity and the pattern of submission within mankind is found in that Scripture. Notice that it says that "the head of Messiah is Elohim." (It did not say that Messiah is not Elohim). "The head of Messiah is Elohim" reveals an order of submission within the Trinity. Please realize that this is a voluntary submission. A pattern set up for many reasons, one of which is to be an example for us to also be voluntarily submissive to Yahuwah. This pattern was also set up so that Yahuwah could come to earth to live as a man, live a sinless life, and then qualify to become our Kinsman Redeemer. The Kinsman Redeemer's job is to pay the price so that their relative would not lose their Promised Land. In this case, we are referring to our place in heaven with Yahuwah.
The other reason this pattern was given was to show us that we as humans are not above submission. If Yeshua, a person of the Trinity, became submissive to the Father, then we can certainly become submissive as commanded by His Holy Scriptures. Let us look at this Scripture again in parts:
"Now I want you to realize that: the head of man is Messiah and the head of the woman is man and the head of Messiah is Elohim" [the Father]
Now lets look at portions of Ephesians chapter 5 which will give more clarity to submission:
"Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children... Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord [Yahuwah]. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church-- for we are members of his body. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." (NIV)
Now for the main point of the study: Above, I said I will show how this pattern is supposed to work out here on earth as it is in heaven to bring Restoration to us and our families, and thus His Kingdom. I also shared how Yeshua came to earth and was submissive to the Father and became our Kinsman Redeemer. He is Savior of all those who put their faith in Him and His Work on the Cross for Redemption. That is the ultimate in Restoration.
Yeshua instructed us to pray, "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven..." Everything is going quite well in heaven. It is here on earth where the problems are. Yeshua being fully Elohim, and fully man not only came to save us from our sins but to also be an example in the area of submission. When husbands submit to Messiah (Christ), and wives submit to their husbands this provides an example for our children. Without this example, they will not even have a clue as to what submission to Elohim is. It is important for children to have examples in every day life where an adult purposely submits, even in situations that may not be in their best personal interest, or at least not what they would want. Children will inevitably emulate the behaviors of their parents. By seeing their Mom be obedient to their Dad it will not only help them to be obedient to both parents, but also to Yahuwah. And by seeing both their Dad and Mom be obedient to Yeshua, especially in times when it does not appear to be what they want, it becomes a tremendous example for the children to emulate.
So, we as followers of Yeshua should not think that we are too important to be submissive, we should always remember this pattern shown in the Trinity. Yeshua submitted even unto death so that we might have eternal life and be a part of Yahuwah's Kingdom. And yet, even though He voluntarily submitted He was not inferior. He was still fully Elohim and deserving of the highest respect. Shouldn't we do the same out of obedience to Elohim, even for the sake of our children, so that they will come to know Yahuwah as well? Of course we should.
